Inspiration In Orlando

March 18, 2010 Inspire Comments

So the other night my beautiful Girlfriend and i decided to go for a walk at DownTown Disney because it was raining all day and it seemed to be a beautiful night.

And just as were leaving to get dessert we came across a little Pop Gallery.

Here i was struck by this beautiful piece of art by Mackenzie Thorpe

And as i began to browse i fell in love with his work:

and after seeing this we came upon yet another amazing artist who actually started out with pen and ink .. you can see his technique in each stroke of his heatbreaking work. An artist named Fabio Napoleoni :

There is almost no way to be moved by some of these images. So ive been inspired to attempt some new work, keep your eye out.

I encourage you to check out more work by these new and up and coming artists.

Theres NOTHING like good advertising.

I appreciate the work at Nike.. they always get my creative juices going… Check this out!

Here is just an AMAZING piece by Esteban Diácono i watched this morning thanks to CMD. I did not create this and wish i could, but i had to share. It really moved me, not to just create something, but to just sit and listen.

philanthropy

Im making an effort to weekly post about a charity/person/cause that i know of. Im hoping to raise awareness and just help those who are helping our fellow man/woman/child.

Im only posting about one event this week because i watched the following documentary “Kickin It” the other night and it completely moved me to tears. I certainly encourage you to watch this film. Its no wonder Soccer (Football) is the best sport on the planet. It brings people of all languages and class to the same level and its really about who you are and not where you came from.

The Homeless World Cup

The Homeless World Cup is a world-class, annual, international football tournament that uses football as a catalyst to encourage people who are homeless to change their lives; and to change the attitudes of governments, media, public and key influencers to create better solutions to homelessness around the world.

The global event unites teams of people who are homeless to take a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their country in an unique street soccer tournament.  It has triggered and supports grass-roots football programs in over 60 nations engaging 30,000 homeless players all year round.

Research consistently demonstrates that over 70 per cent of players experience a significant life change. They come off drugs and alcohol, move into homes, jobs, education and training, repair relationships and even become coaches and players.

The Player Impact

Research after the Copenhagen 2007 Homeless World Cup once again demonstrated a significant impact amongst 381 players revisited six months after the event:

93% of players have a new motivation for life (354 players)
83% have improved social relations (316 players)
71% have significantly changed their life (271 players)
29% found employment (110 players)
38% improved their housing situation (145 players)
32% went into education (122 players)
118 players addressed a drug or alcohol dependency
71% now play football on a regular basis (271 players)

Searching the web for ideas and inspiration is a very humbling and awe-inspiring task. Creating a catchy powerful 15 second clip is hard enough.. i cant emagine trying to create a minute long commercial that tells a story.. but im trying to learn.

This last week at Echo, Barton Damer made a good point and im trying to remember if he quoted someone else or not but the point was, if a picture is worth a thousand words how much can you say with one that moves? That may not be word for word but that was the point. Us as designers are commissioned to tell a story with our work, whether its a still or movie.

Anyway with all that to say I’ve found that the marketing team at Nike completely blows my mind on all mediums (print, web, video). I have alot of work to do to get to that type of level.. but im motivated for sure.

here is a perfect example of really telling an entire story.. and its such a clever perspective for a commercial. Note.. some people may get nauseous watching this.

Here are a few videos that have been brought to my attention.

OMG! series bumper from The Summit Church on Vimeo.

Thanks Becs and Scott

Check out this fantastic Online Album and site from Kutiman. He mixed and sampled dozens of Youtube videos to make his own beats and songs. He also meticulously lists and links to all of the original material. Great stuff.

Is Youtube the new record-bin for sample artists?
