FaceBook-256x256No matter where in the world you are, joining our cause&inviting friends to join and donate on Nov 4-5th will make a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE to the 14 South African mentees we’re sponsoring to bring to NY in Jan 2010! all funds will purchase their plane tix!

“America’s Giving Challenge is a 30-day competition running until November 6th that allows causes to compete for cash awards by inspiring the most people to donate to their cause, regardless of the dollar amount. YOU can help ACT win $1,000 from the competition per day – all you have to do is donate any dollar amount and encourage friends to do so! The day we chose is Wednesday, November 4th.

If everyone on our cause gives $10, that can buy 4 plane tickets for underprivileged South African youth to come to New York this January to meet their mentors and realize their full potential.

“i would like to go and visit some disadvantage places that has children from all ages that are less fortunate meaning like a chlidrens home or and homeless place can you tell me of one in New york. And you can also by you’re experiences in new york what is fun there and tell me about it places that i’ll really enjoy. But my main purpose would be children.” – Lee-Ann Jumat, mentee

Im making an effort to weekly post about a charity/person/cause that i know of. Im hoping to raise awareness and just help those who are helping our fellow man/woman/child.

Im only posting about one event this week because i watched the following documentary “Kickin It” the other night and it completely moved me to tears. I certainly encourage you to watch this film. Its no wonder Soccer (Football) is the best sport on the planet. It brings people of all languages and class to the same level and its really about who you are and not where you came from.

The Homeless World Cup

The Homeless World Cup is a world-class, annual, international football tournament that uses football as a catalyst to encourage people who are homeless to change their lives; and to change the attitudes of governments, media, public and key influencers to create better solutions to homelessness around the world.

The global event unites teams of people who are homeless to take a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to represent their country in an unique street soccer tournament.  It has triggered and supports grass-roots football programs in over 60 nations engaging 30,000 homeless players all year round.

Research consistently demonstrates that over 70 per cent of players experience a significant life change. They come off drugs and alcohol, move into homes, jobs, education and training, repair relationships and even become coaches and players.

The Player Impact

Research after the Copenhagen 2007 Homeless World Cup once again demonstrated a significant impact amongst 381 players revisited six months after the event:

93% of players have a new motivation for life (354 players)
83% have improved social relations (316 players)
71% have significantly changed their life (271 players)
29% found employment (110 players)
38% improved their housing situation (145 players)
32% went into education (122 players)
118 players addressed a drug or alcohol dependency
71% now play football on a regular basis (271 players)

Im making an effort to weekly post about a charity/person/cause that i know of. Im hoping to raise awareness and just help those who are helping our fellow man/woman/child. It seems like there are some amazing marketing and design teams working for philanthropic efforts and it really brings a smile to my face.

huruma

Art for Huruma

Art for Huruma is a collaboration between Barton Damer and Promise (Tangeman) Wurzell. They will tag team a piece of artwork that will raise awareness as well as funds for Hurmura Children’s home.

To view the final product and order check out AlreadyBeenChewed.net

Huruma Children’s Home was founded in 1989, but the idea of establishing a Children’s Home was mooted by Mama Zipporah back in 1984. She was touched by the situation of the street children in Ngong Town at that time, and she therefore wrote a proposal which attracted funding from World Vision for a feeding-program for the street children. The feeding-program started in 1985 in a shanty village in Ngong Town under the umbrella of the Ngong Churches Huruma Project.

Falling Whistles

Falling Whistles gives a small window into our world’s largest war. Originally just a journal written about boys sent to the frontlines of war armed with only a whistle, readers forwarded it with the same kind of urgency in which it was written and demanded to know – what can we do?

The Falling Whistles campaign launched with a simple response – make their weapon your voice and be a whistleblower for peace in Congo. Read the story and buy the whistle. Proceeds will help restore the lives of war-affected kids. Share their story and speak up for them.

Im making an effort to weekly post about a charity/person/cause that i know of. Im hoping to raise awareness and just help those who are helping our fellow man/woman/child. It also helps that these two organizations that i am featuring this week have some of the best branding and media i have ever seen. Kudos to their teams! Lets Get Started.

THESE NUMBERS HAVE FACES

The Heart Behind These Numbers Have Faces:

These Numbers Have Faces isn’t about a cause, it’s about people.

We care deeply about issues of poverty, disease, and conflict, but the driving force behind TNHF is the relationship we have with our friends in South Africa.

It is our love for Coach Eric and the JL Zwane Football Club, Lee Lee and Iintombi Zilapha, Anda, Xolani, and the rest of our friends in Gugulethu that keeps this organization going.

We believe human relationships to be one of the most powerful forces in the world. It is in these relationships with our friends in South Africa that hope comes alive, where God is real, and where our lives find meaning.

No matter what the news media tell us, our dear friends in South Africa are not numbers. They are not color coded charts, pie graphs, or economic statistics. These Numbers Have Faces.

CHARITY: WATER

It’s hard not to think about water today. In the western world, we face growing concerns about our stewardship of the world’s most precious resource. There’s talk of shortages, evidence of reservoirs and aquifers drying up, and of course, plenty of people who simply don’t care.

But forget about us.

Most of us have never really been thirsty. We’ve never had to leave our houses and walk 5 miles to fetch water. We simply turn on the tap, and water comes out. Clean. Yet more than 1.1 billion people on the planet don’t have clean water.
It’s hard to imagine what a billion people looks like really, but one in six might be easier. One in six people in our world don’t have access to the most basic of human needs. Something we can’t imagine going 12 hours without.
Here, we’d like to introduce you to a few of those billion people. They are very real, and they need our help. They didn’t choose to be born into a village where the only source of water is a polluted swamp. And we didn’t choose to be born in a country where even the homeless have access to clean water and a toilet.
We invite you to put yourself in their shoes. Follow them on their daily journey. Carry 80 pounds of water in yellow fuel cans. Dig with their children in sand for water. Line up at a well and wait 8 hours for a turn.
Now, make a decision to help. We’re not offering grand solutions and billion dollar schemes, but instead, simple things that work. Things like freshwater wells, rainwater catchments and sand filters. For about $20 a person, we know how to help millions of people.

Im going to make an effort to weekly post about a charity/person/cause that i know of. Im hoping to raise awareness and just help those who are helping our fellow man/woman/child. This week im going to mention a few, just to get started.

Akia Ashianut

stephenAkia Ashianut is two women on a mission to change the world. But that’s not all; they are also an amazing support-network, or rather a coalition, of friends and family who have as much desire to see this project come to fruition as they do.

Their hearts have been captured by the hope and urgency we have witnessed in Pallisa. Their minds still reflect on the faces of all the children we held in their arms; and there are so many children.  Their hands are committed to working with communities toward laying the foundations for change and sustainable development

Reach. Connect. Grow. Empower.

SCTNOW

Stop Child Trafficking Now is a one-of-a-kind campaign that Dr. Laura Lederer, former US State Department Senior Advisor on human trafficking, calls “historic.” Never before has there been a campaign or event of this magnitude enabling every mother, father, son, daughter and friend to help put an end to the most despicable crime of our time!

Stop Child Trafficking Now targets the source of child trafficking: predators who drive the sex industry everywhere in the world, including in your own local community. SCTNow looks to sponsors and donors to help fund highly qualified teams of operatives who build cases and execute missions that bring trafficking to a halt.

Most other organizations address child trafficking by performing rescue operations. SCTNow greatly supports their efforts, but believes for every child rescued another takes his or her place. Not until we stop the predators will we rid the world of trafficking. SCTNow’s goal is to put predators behind bars and end the demand.
